the mountain in a nutshell.

Bert Thornburn first climbed to the top of Silverstar in 1921 after riding his bike to the end of Silverstar road with his skis strapped to the side. He trekked the 17 km (10.5 mi) to the peak and skied the first descent of the now 760 metres (2500 ft.) vertical terrain that is Silverstar Mountain Resort.

It wasn’t until 25 years later, in 1946, that the first rope tow was installed – forever pushing “backcountry only” snobs off the peak. At the time it was only $0.50 to ski for the day! Located in the gorgeous Okanagan valley of British Columbia Silverstar Mountain has a little something for everyone. The colourful village is filled with family friendly activities and the expert only terrain off the Putnam Creek area has terrain even the most advanced skiers will enjoy. If you’re tired of touring Canada’s best wine country (sorry Niagara) in the winter, bring the family up to Silverstar for some of the best skiing interior B.C. has to offer – it will however cost a tad more than $0.50…
