the mountain in a nutshell.
We hope you packed your skis and your wallet for this 3-for-1 mountain special! This piece features three quarters of the Aspen Snowmass ski resorts. Each mountain has its own distinct personality and is connected by vibrant, albeit incredibly expensive, town of Aspen, Colorado.
First up is the beginner friendly option, Buttermilk. While there may be limited piste for advanced riders, Buttermilk offers a nice relaxed environment for those trying their hand at mountain skiing for the first time. That, and of course it's a great place for park rats. Oh yes, what Buttermilk lacks in terrain it makes up for in a terrain park featuring an Olympic sized superpipe, an full X games course, and jumps so large they would make seasoned freeriders nervous.
As we move the terrain difficulty slider you reach the incredible intermediate resort of Aspen Mountain, or better known as "Ajax". The skiing at Ajax is widely known for two things: the multitude of blue cruisers winding through the resort's 675 acres and its moguls packed black diamonds. But it's not all groomers and bumps here, on a pow day skiers rush to Walsh's to get those knee deep face shots. While you might have to fight a crowd to get there, we promise it is worth it.
Last, but certainly not least, we have the formidable Aspen Highlands and its famous Highland Bowl. The Highland Bowl is the pièce de résistance of the resort. It features fiercely steep backcountry terrain that filters down into knee-bustingly tight trees. The best part about this? You've got to hike to get to it. So that means the crowds disperse and only those willing to put themselves through some high altitude boot packing will be joining you. And let's be honest, those are the best type of people to ski with anyways.
