the mountain in a nutshell.

Kirkwood Ski Resort may not offer the picturesque Lake Tahoe vistas, but who needs them when you're bless with some of the world's finest powder? Kirkwood's reputation for utter heaps of snow rivals even Utah's snowiest resorts with an average snowfall of 373" per year (although recent years have far exceeded this). And while neighbouring Lake Tahoe ski destinations may suffer from the dreaded "Sierra Cement" wet snow, Kirkwood's lofty altitude delivers pristine powder in mouth watering amounts.

Despite its ongoing evolution, "The Wood" remains refreshingly unpretentious. Don't expect lavish shopping sprees or glitzy distractions here; you come here for skiing and snowboarding and thats it (which sounds great in our opinion). Conveniently close to South Lake Tahoe, yet secluded from the hustle and bustle, Kirkwood stands out for its affordability and mostly crowd-free slopes, although this may have a bit to do with is ancient and trudging chairlifts. Though its far from a luxury destination, The Wood continues to attract powder hounds seeking the simple joys of exceptional skiing, and if you ask us, fresh powder in these quantities should definitely be considered a luxury.
