Lake Louise Lakeshore model.

the model in a nutshell

As if this internationally famous lake needed anymore attention, welcome to Canada's 'Diamond in the Wilderness', AKA Lake Louise. Nestled on the Western border of Banff National Park, this lake boast beautiful turquoise waters during the summer and is home to the historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel that looks like it was plucked straight from the Swiss Alps. The Chateau has actually burned down several times in its lengthy history, and the fact that people decided to rebuild it each time is a testament to how spectacular of a view the lake offers.

Rising above the lake is the formidable Mount Victoria at 3,464 metres (11,365 ft.), but don't fret, there are plenty more accessible summits to hike and scramble to. In fact, incredible views from Fairview Mountain, Mount St. Piran, Devil's Thumb, and the Beehive trails have led to Lake Louise gaining another nickname, 'The Hiking Capital of Canada.' Just be prepared to be huffing and puffing, because the altitude around here is no joke. In fact, Lake Louise sits at an elevation of 1,600 metres (5,429 ft.) making it Canada's highest elevation community.

But hey, if hiking isn't your thing canoeing just might be! Canoeing in a iconic red canoe on Lake Louise is nothing short than definitive bucket list item. Unfortunately, it is on many people's bucket lists, making the Lake Louise Boathouse possibly the busiest canoe dock in the world. So be sure to pack your patience (& enough money in your wallet!) and whatever you do, don't drop your camera in the water!
