the mountain in a nutshell.

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Mammoth Mountain is like that one friend who brags about everything they've got - and you can't help but love them for it. Abundance of terrain? Check. A long ski season? Check. Stunning views? You betcha. Lots of snow? One of California's snowiest!

As the name might suggest, Mammoth is massive, with over 3,500 acres of snowy goodness. Mammoth also sits as California's highest elevation ski resort with its summit clocking in at 11,053ft (3,368m) which also bodes well for the snow quality. Luckily, the resort gets quality and a good quantity of snow with an average snowfall of around 400 inches. We know it's not quite up to Utah standards of powder dumps, but if you're going to complain about 33ft. of snow, then we are not friends.

But what we love most about Mammoth is how it has managed to preserve its low key vibe since it was opened in 1953. Sure it might get busy on the weekends, but even the celebrities and well-funded Los Angeles folks that visit seem to blend into the refreshingly simple vibe of the area. Perhaps Colorado should be taking some notes!
