🌄 Moraine Lake & Mount Temple: One who has not visited Moraine Lake before might be surprised to discover that it holds the title of "Most Photographed Lake in the World". However, to those lucky enough to have seen its electric blue glacier fed waters surrounded by the jagged summits of the Valley of Ten Peaks, this fact comes as no surprise. Once gracing the back of the Canadian $20 bill, Moraine Lake has become increasingly difficult to visit due to the high demand for its views. Today, a visit to Moraine Lake means booking a shuttle well in advance, but it is well worth it for the chance to view this iconic piece of Canadiana.
For the adventurous souls, the Moraine Lake area offers some of the Bow Valley's best hiking. View the landscape bathed in magnificent golden yellow in the fall thanks to the titular larch trees from the Larch Valley trail. Or witness the majesty of Mount Temple from Sentinel Pass. Standing at 3,554 metres (11,660 ft.), Mount Temple is Banff National Park's 3rd tallest peak and can be ascended via an arduous scramble not for the average hiker. Luckily, for the average Banff visitor, this beast of a mountain can be easily viewed from the Trans Canada highway. Just look for the giant triangular-shaped peak capped with ice and snow looming over the village of Lake Louise, and you have found yourself Mount Temple.
