🎿 A-Basin & Loveland: Behold two Colorado ski resorts that ditch the area's usual glitz and glamour in favour of a no-frills, epic skiing experience. First up is Loveland Ski Area, a mountain widely know as being one of the first US resorts to open each year in mid October and often stay open until early to mid May. If that made you guess that this mountain is extremely snowy, you nailed it. It absolutely dumps over Loveland's 1,800 acres of fun. On average the mountain gets 85 days of snow and records around 442" of snow each season. That's a whole lot of pow days. But be warned, for Loveland is also notorious for some excruciatingly slow chairlifts and when you're near the mountain's 13,010' top elevation you feel every degree of that bone chilling wind. It's chairlifts like these that really make the hand-warmer market seem lucrative.
A quick 15 minute drive down the Grand Army of the Republic Highway and you'll reach the second mountain to feature in this piece: Arapahoe Basin. A-Basin is often referred to as 'The Legend', which can be attributed to its daunting terrain as well as the mountain's reputation for hosting the best mountain tailgate party found on earth in the parking lot, or on 'The Beach' as the locals lovingly refer to it as. But those beach beverages are often hard earned after a day skiing this challenging mountain. A-Basin's 2,350' of vertical is no joke at the mountain boast truly expert terrain and is arguably the most challenging ski resort in the Colorado Front Range. Just ask anyone that's hucked off a cliff in the Pallavicini chair area and they will tell you that while A-Basin is an incredible mountain, it's not for the faint of heart.
